Sea Gulls Squeak By Wellesley, Advance To NCAA Final Four
Salisbury, MD- The No. 1 Salisbury University field hockey team is on to the final four of the NCAA tournament, defeating No. 8 Wellesley College 1-0, in a
quarterfinal match at Sea Gull Stadium.
In a back and forth game, the Gulls got the game-winning goal from conference player of the year Summer Washburn with just over nine minutes to play. Samantha Johnson found Washburn at the top of the circle on a pass from the corner. The goal was all Salisbury would need as the Gulls played solid defense after some last minute attempts to tie the game by the Blue.
The win propels the Gulls into NCAA championship
weekend, and a national semifinal game next Saturday, November 22 against Bowdoin College. The championship weekend will take
place on November 22 and 23 in Lexington, Virginia at Washington and
Lee University.
