Salisbury University Encourages Midterm Election Voting

SALISBURY, Md.- Young voters are one of the most under represented groups in midterm elections.

24.2% of Marylanders between the ages of 18 and 29 voted in the last midterm election, this, compared to the 50.1% that turned out for the most recent presidential election. Salisbury University, through their institute of public affairs and civic engagement hopes to get more young people out to the polls by promoting the idea that voting is a civic duty.

Matt Swiderski, a Salisbury University graduate student says, “We actually conducted a voter registration drive with a program called turbo vote it allows students to register online to vote.”

The university was actually able to get Lieutenant Governor Anthony Brown and Larry Hogan's running mate Boyd Rutherford to come and talk to their students about the importance of their participation in the election tomorrow.
