Laurel Cant Handle Hodgson In Title Game

Newark, DE- The Hodgson Silver Eagles completed their goal of back to back Division II state championships, beating Laurel 42-0 in front of a big crowd at Tubby Raymond field at Delaware Stadium.

The Silver Eagles controlled the game from start to finish, starting right from the opening kickoff. Ray Jones' shanked the kickoff, the ball only went about 20 yards, but took an awkward bounce and was recovered by Hodgson. Three plays later, the future Delaware Blue Hen Jones was in the endzone. After Laurel turned over the ball on downs in Hodgson territory on the following drive, Hodgson found themselves in the endzone again, this time off Jones' arm as the senior connected with Ni'kye Ramseur for a 14-0 lead less than 6 minutes into the game. Before the quarter was over, Marcus Brown would rumble 70 more yards down the Laurel sideline for the Silver Eagles, stretching their lead to 22-0 after the first quarter. Jones would score once more before the half was over, and the Silver Eagles had a 28-0 lead at the half. The Silver Eagles would not look back and capture the crown for the second year in a row. Jones totaled 5 touchdowns in all.

The Bulldogs finish as the state runner up, with a 10-3 record, after winning just two games in 2013. Congratulations to both teams.
