Lady Hawks’ Cant Keep Up With VCU

Princess Anne, MD- The University of Eastern Shore Women's Basketball team fell 72-50 to Virginia Commonwealth University in their home opener at the William P. Hytche Athletic Center Thursday night.

VCU jumped out to an early lead behind shooting 50% (9-18) from behind the arc. The Rams were lead by Isis Thorpe and reserve Ashley Pegram, who had 15 and 13 points respectively. The VCU bench played a huge role in the game, outscoring UMES' bench 45-2, and at one point lead by 30 points. The Hawks' trailed 39-22 at the half, but continued to fight. Guard Jessie Long lead UMES with a game-high 17 points. Shawnee Sweeney and Alexis Udoji had 12 and 11 points, respectively. The Hawks' kept competitive in the second half, being outscored 33-28.

UMES is back in action Saturday when they travel to Huntington, WVa. to take on Marshall.
