Kent Island Falls in 2A Field Hockey State Championship Game 2-1

CHESTERTOWN, MD — Kent Island's field hockey team took the field with plenty of energy at Washington College for the 2A State Championship. But by the end of the night, the smiles that started the game where turned upside down as they fell to Hereford 2-1.

The Buccaneers had been on this playing field before back in 2008 where they won their first championship. But on Saturday night they faced a different opponent in Hereford who was looking for it's seventh championship title.

One goal by the Bulls in the first half and the second one coming in the second half. Kent Island was just seconds away from being shutout in the title game. But freshman Abby Carpenter lobbed one in from the corner and, although it was too late, the Bucs scored their first goal of the game.

Kent Island returns 11 juniors for next season. Head Coach Jami Wilt said after the game “We'll be back.”
