Delmar Field Hockey Escape Win OT Win Over Dover
Delmar, DE – The Delmar field hockey team advanced to the next round of the state tournament Wednesday after they edged out Dover 3-2 in overtime. The Wildcats will now face Polytech on Saturday.
The Wildcats would draw a penalty kick early on in the match and take a 1-0 lead after Kayla Adkins sent it home. The teams would battle to a stand still from there and we would go to the break with Delmar up 1-0. The second half both defenses would continue to play well and it was beginning to look like we were headed for a 1-0 final before the Senators finally broke through. Tessa Tierson would take one up the left side and send it home to tie up the match with 12 minutes remaining. The Wildcats came right back though as Kyra Webb would blast one in to give her team the lead once more. It again looked like the Wildcats were on their way to the win before Tierson would come up with a lose ball and work it's way in from a clutter in front of the cage. We would head to overtime and a couple minutes into the extra session, the Wildcats were awarded a penalty stroke and it looked like they were going to end it there but the Senators keeper Brooklyn Peete came up with an incredible season-saving save to keep the match going. Delmar would show their resolve though as they came right back with Peyton Kemp coming up with the ball in front of the goal, and calling her own number for the match winning score.
