Cambridge SD Football Downs Kent County, Advances To State
Cambridge, MD – The Cambridge South Dorchester football team took down Kent County 23-10 in a defensive battle Friday night to advance to the state semifinals. They now await the results of games Friday to find out where and who they will play next weekend.
The Vikings would open the game with a long drive and cap it off with a short touchdown run by James Smith. The teams would both buckle down defensively from there with neither team being able to score. Cambridge would finally put together another nice drive and were line up for a short 31 yard field goal, but the snap was muffed and the attempt failed. After forcing another Trojans punt, it looked like the Vikings were going to score again after Nathaniel Lowe found his man Dishawn Elliott for the score, but the pass would be ruled trapped, negating the competition for a touchdown. The teams would go into the break with the Vikings holding onto a 7-0 lead.
To open the second half, the Vikings defense would turn up the pressure. Following a sack for a big loss that pinned the Trojans against their own goal line, Terry Wilson would get into the back field for another sack which resulted in a safety. Following the kickoff, Cambridge would change up their offensive approach and go into the wildcat formation. Smith would get the hand off and bust through the middle for a 40 yard touchdown run. The Trojans would then respond after Steve Curran would lead them down the field and cap off the drive with a 12 yard keeper for the touchdown. They would go for two and Curran would find Tavon Thomas for the score. But Smith would put the game away for the Vikings as he broke a 61 yard touchdown run the next drive to open up a 2 score game again. Then defensively would come up with a interception to seal the game.
