Bennett Grad Yingling Earns DIII National Player of the Week
Kansas City, MO – It hasn't taken too long for James M. Bennett graduate Gavin Yingling to find his place on the Merchant Marines men's soccer team. In his second team with the program, the former Clipper has found himself as one of the team leaders in several categories, including points with 15.
He is holding the team lead in the clutch category as well.
This season the sophomore has recorded four game winning “golden goals”, including three straight to help put the Mariners in a position to make a run in the conference tournament. This past week he was recognized for his incredible play on the field by being named the National Division III Player of the Week, the first Mariner player to ever earn that honor.
Gavin credited his teammates and coaches for putting him in a position to be successful, stating that each of his goals came off perfect set ups from his fellow attackmen. He went on to add that he wouldn't have been in that position to score the game winners if the defense hadn't held the opposing team in check leading up to it.
Yingling and the rest of the Mariners will look to keep their hot streak going when they return to action this Wednesday for a critical matchup when they host Drew for a chance to advance to the conference championship game.
