Pocomoke Field Hockey Edge Kent Island, Claim Bayside Championship

Pocomoke, MD – The Pocomoke field hockey team took down Kent Island 2-1 to claim their first Bayside Championship since 2007 on Monday night. The win improves the Warriors to 11-3, while the Buccaneers fall to 9-4.

The Warriors would jump out to an early lead after Peyton Becker would take a pass in the middle, and fire it home past the Buccaneers keeper. The lead wouldn't last long though as Kent Island came storming back before the end of the half, and would tie the match after Payton Beach would be able to sneak one through on a break away with 15:46 remaining in the match.

The second half, both teams would continue to battle with neither team initially being able to add the go-ahead goal. With 32 minutes remaining, the Warriors thought they took the lead after a ball into the box appeared to be deflected in by McKenzie Beauchamp, but the refs would disallow it, saying that it was not touched in the box. The Warriors would show their resolve though, and continue to attack before eventually breaking through at the 9:34 mark. There off a corner, the ball would be shot into the box and deflected home by Dani Batze. Just minutes after that, the Warriors thought they had sealed the game after another shot by Carly Adams appeared to be in, but the refs would call that the goalie stopped it short of the goal line. Kent Island then would counter attack in the final minutes and nearly had the game tying goal off a corner if not for a tremendous save from D'nasia Jones. Time would run out and the Warriors would hold on for the win.

Both teams now move on to state tournament play.
