Wesley Dominates Salisbury In Route 13 Rivalry

Salisbury, MD.- The Wesley College football team took it to Salisbury University, in Salisbury's home opener, 43-5.

The Wolverines (2-0) got on the scoreboard first, going eight plays and covering 53 yards, capped off by a 1-yard plunge by Wesley RB Jamar Baynard. The Sea Gulls  (1-1) would see a trio of three-and-out possessions on offense, just not seeming to be able to get anything going against the stingy Wesley defense. After one quarter, Wesley was ahead 13-0.

Salisbury would get a Zak Osborne 27-yard field goal, for their first points of the game. 13-3 is as close as the game would get. Just one minute later, Wesley QB Joe Callahan found Wesley's all-time leading receiver Steve Koudossou across the middle for a 59-yard catch and run touchdown. With the Sea Gulls offense going three and out consecutively, Wesley would convert again before the half, with Baynard taking in another 1-yard touchdown run, pushing Wesley's lead to 27-3 at the half.

The second half started off with more of the same as the Wolverines came out of the locker room and went ten plays, for 65 yards, completed by Baynard's third touchdown of the night, this one a 14-yarder. Salisbury would add a special teams safety, as would Wesley add a couple more scores for a final of 43-5. Wesley compiled 480 yards of total offense to Salisbury's 179.

The Sea Gulls have a bye week before their next contest at Buffalo State College on September 27th, while the Wolverines take on Rowan at home next Saturday, September 20th.
