Stephen Decatur Girls Soccer Take Down Bennett In Battle of Unbeatens

Salisbury, MD – The Stephen Decatur girls soccer team picked up a huge win Tuesday afternoon after they took down James M. Bennett 3-1. The win improves the Seahawks to 6-0 on the year, while the loss drops the Clippers to 4-1.

Bennett grabbed the lead early on in the game when Brittney Boardman converted a header. The Clippers then relied on their defense which would post a shut out the rest of the half, but it wasn't easy. The Seahawks were on the attack from the start and got several opportunities but great play from keeper Breanne Hall would send them away.

The second half was a different story though. As Decatur continued to attack, they finally broke through when Lexie Vankirk on a break away sent a beautiful shot to the far post from the right side and banged it home. With the momentum clearly swinging in favor of the road team, the Seahawks continued to attack. Just minutes later they were able to grab the lead when Vankirk would send another shot, that would ricochet off the upright. The lose ball would wind up in front of the net, and a fight for the ball would result in Rachel Bourne being credited for a controversial goal. The Clippers begged for keeper interference, but the goal stood. The Seahawks would add one more goal for good measure.

Stephen Decatur is back in action on Thursday when they play at Snow Hill, while James M. Bennett returns to action on Thursday when they host Parkside.
