Polytech Storms Back, Defeats Delcastle in Opener
Woodside, DE.- The kick-off to the 2014 season in Delaware could not have come in better fashion, than the back and forth gem of a game put on by Delcastle and Polytech.
The back and forth matchup had Delcastle leading for most of the game, including a 13-10 lead at halftime. Delcastle RB Warren Underwood took a sweep 65 yards to the house just after half time, making the score 21-10 before Polytech answered. A two point conversion would be no good, bringing the score to 21-16 with 8:36 remaining in the third. The two teams would trade touchdown's again before the quarter was over. In Polytech's drive, running back Gabe Brown ate up yards on the ground, Brown finished the game with 197 yards on the ground.
In the fourth quarter, the teams would go back and forth once more. After Underwood broke another long run putting Delcastle up 35-22, the game looked to be out of reach. Fans began leaving the stadium, but Poly was just arriving. Poly QB Scott Rigby would take a keeper into the endzone making the score 35-29 with just above five minutes remaining. Polytech would get the ball back with three minutes to go, and deliver on the go ahead drive. After taking the 36-35 lead, Polytech would have to play tough defense with 1:36 remaining in the game, and thats just what they did. Poly would pick off a pass and hold on for the amazing win.
The Polytech Panthers (1-0, 0-0) look to go 2-0 next Friday when they host the Woodbridge Raiders.
