Pocomoke Boys’ Soccer Holds on, Takes First Victory

Pocomoke City, MD.- The Pocomoke Warriors got there season off to a great start, defeating county rival Stephen Decatur 2-1, in a thrilling opening night victory.

Pocomoke freshman Amonty Allen got his career started off with a boom, scoring his first career goal, as well as the first of the 2014 season, within three minutes of the games start. Allen would take a long pass from his defenders right thru the middle, and find the back of the net. A couple minutes later, Allen would show off his raw talent. A thru pass would find its way to Allen's foot, and the freshman would shake 2 defenders, step past a third, and bury his second career goal, making the game 2-0 jusr eight minutes into the game. “They couldn't really do anything with him” said Pocomoke Head Coach Alan Byrd, “He's a great player, and a great kid.”

Decatur would fight its way back into the game with a scrappy second half effort. Those efforts would pay off when Alton Walker was taken down by Pocomoke defenders in the box, and awarded a penalty kick. Walker would convert the PK, giving Pocomoke just a 2-1 lead with seven minutes remaining. Though Decatur fought hard, Pocomoke controlled the ball and held on for the tough win.

Pocomoke (1-0) will host Parkside for another Bayside South matchup Friday, as Decatur (0-1) hosts Mardela on Monday.
