DSU Football Falls To Towson

Dover, DE – The Delaware State University football fell in their home opener Saturday to Towson 21-7. The Hornets defense would help lead the way to a 7-3 lead at half time and continue to keep them in the game the second half.

The Tigers began the 3rd quarter with a strong drive that would eventually stall out on the goal line after a nice play by one of the Hornets corners in the flats would knock away a would be completion. They would attempt a short field goal and miss to have the score remain 7-3. After a short series from the Hornets offense, the defense would again be sent out to slow down the Tigers.

This time Towson would again march down the field before another great play at the goal line held them to a field goal. This time they would bang it through to pull within a point. Headed to the 4th, the Hornets were still up 1, and were in punt formation when a long snap would go over the punters head. He would recover it and try to get it off, only to have it be blocked and recovered in the end zone by the Tigers for a touchdown. Towson would go for 2 and convert to make it 14-7 Tigers.

The offense continued to struggle for the Hornets and facing another 4th down, they would again punt the ball away. This time it would seal the game as the Tigers were able to return the punt 81 yards to the house for another score. The loss drops the Hornets to 0-3 on the year.

DSU returns to action next Saturday when they play Temple.
