UPDATE: Somerset Co. official receives letter from the White House

A local Maryland law enforcement officer was recognized with an official United States government correspondence for his "tenacious spirit" while battling cancer.
On Thursday, 47ABC learned that Lt. Lorenzo "Rennie" Miles was recognized by President Trump in an official letter from the White House. Lt. Miles is battling pancreatic cancer as he received his diagnosis in 2016.
Over the recent Christmas holiday, Lt. Miles' brothers in blue with the Somerset County Sheriff's Office accepted a plethora of Christmas cards from the community, giving him well wishes and a lifted spirit.
On Friday, Lt. Miles tells 47ABC that he initially thought the letter was "junk mail" until he saw that it was addressed to him. Shock was among his reactions to getting the letter.
In the White House correspondence, Lt. Miles says President Trump addressed his battle with cancer and called his spirit "tenacious and inspirational."
