Community meets to discuss racial incidents

The Friendship Baptist Church in Lewes was packed Wednesday night with dozens of concerned residents, discussing race relations within the community.

The church organized the meeting between the community and the Cape Henlopen School District after what the community claims were a slew of racially motivated incidents.

District Superintendent Bob Fulton addressed the recent act where racial slurs were spray painted on school busses, saying he was quick to get out in front of the matter.

He also discussed an incident that happened last year where a white student cut a black students  hair without his consent.  He said he personally apologized to the victim, but added he should have gotten out in front of that controversy a lot sooner.

On Monday, 47abc spoke with a leader of the area NAACP about the matter, we have those comments on our website.
