Crisfield PD offers shelter during frigid cold

With frigid temperatures expected over the next few days, things can get dangerous if you plan on heading outside. Because of this, the Crisfield police department is offering a place to stay for those in need.
47 ABC spoke with Bonnie Milbert of Crisfield and she says these negative temperatures won’t bother her! She says, “I love the cold.” But for some other folks, it’s a different story.
David Palakanis lives in Marion and tends to his farm daily. He says it’s important to remember the animals in the cold.
He tells 47 ABC, “Try to avoid the outside as best you can. We have a small farm so we have animals to take care of and just make sure everything is closed up and there’s no drafts that you could prevent. Keep the water warm so they have something to drink that’s also important because the water would freeze.”
Lieutenant Rick Taylor of the Crisfield Police Department urges you to stay warm yourself. Lt. Taylor tells 47 ABC, “Hypothermia, it can act very quickly.”
And in times like these, not everyone has a place to turn to. But police say if you do need some place to stay they are offering warm beds and blankets inside their station and they say you can stay as long as you need.
Lt. Taylor tells 47 ABC, “Before we see anybody that suffers from any cold weather injuries we’d like to get them off the streets.”
Lieutenant Taylor says they are even prepared to travel to help those in need. He tells 47 ABC, “If you’ve got loved ones out there, elderly people, and you can’t get to them give us a call well be more than happy to go check on your loved ones as well.”
