School bus safety

Wicomico County students are going back to school Tuesday and with their return, comes the return of school busses.
The Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office has reminded the public to exercise caution around school busses.
The most common mistake drivers make is failing to stop for the school buses flashing red lights.
The Sheriff’s Office said they often receive complaints from school bus drivers about this.
The Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office now has all school bus drivers on the lookout for drivers breaking the law, and they have deputies on patrol as well.
Lieutenant Tim Robinson said if you get caught violating a school bus law, you will be hit with a nasty fine. He said, “For those that might think that it’s not a serious matter, if you fail to stop for a school bus in Maryland with red flashing lights, your wallet is going to be about $570 dollars lighter.”
The Sheriff’s Office said if you are in the vicinity of a school bus, pay close attention to what’s going on around you, especially if you are in a residential neighborhood, where a bus could stop at any moment.
