Maryland AG Warns Tornado Victims of Scams

As if the residents and business owners who were affected by the EF-2 tornado that ripped through Queen Anne's county don't have enough to worry about.
Now– Maryland's Attorney General is warning about con artists lurking around storm-ravaged neighborhoods.
"They'll take the money and run. Some of them will do a shoddy job and you'll never hear from them again– you'll never find them again."
Maryland's Attorney General Brian Frosh says criminals make it there business to be first on the scene so they can catch consumers at a vulnerable time.
"this is a very common occurrence if you have natural disaster a flood … a tornado… a hurricane. All of a sudden you have neighborhoods populated with folks who say 'I'll fix your problem."
According to the state's top attorney many people are so distraught they don't take the time to check out the person offering to make repairs or remove debris.
"We ask consumers to get a couple of estimates. At least two– better to get three. Four is even and getting a fair price."
The A-G says his office hasn't received any complaints from Tornado victims yet — but when those complaints start to roll in — he say his office will prosecute scammers to the full extent of the law.
