Somerset County commissioners move forward on proposed $63 million FY27 budget

Princess Anne, Md. – Somerset County Commissioners held a meeting on Tuesday to move forward in approving this year’s fiscal budget. Commissioners moved forward with their proposed a $63 million budget and also the proposed County Roads Board Budget of $4 million.

Commissioners reviewed a community development block grant application, with a proposed $200,000 for blight removal. The board also approved a $360,000 budget for waste management operations on Smith Island, including expanding incinerator operations. Additionally, an almost $76,000 grant for an EMT apprenticeship program was approved.

One Princess Anne resident, Robert McIntyre, utilized the time for public comments to voice concern about wastewater safeguards. He said he wanted to make sure someone from the county was making sure a proposed restaurant was not contaminating groundwater with effluent.

The board said the Critical Areas Commission will have the final in how the safeguards are managed. The county will be accepting comments until June 12th.
