Seaford Reminds Residents to Follow Guidelines Ahead of Clean-Up Week

SEAFORD, Del. — Officials in Seaford are urging residents to follow key guidelines as the city prepares for its annual Clean-Up Week, scheduled for May 11 through May 15.
City leaders emphasize that items should not be placed at the curb until the weekend of May 9, warning that early placement can create safety and quality-of-life concerns across neighborhoods. According to the City of Seaford, putting debris out too soon can lead to cluttered streets, blocked sidewalks, and drainage issues caused by loose materials.
Residents are encouraged to keep piles neat and manageable to prevent debris from blowing into neighboring yards or clogging storm drains. Large piles placed too early can also interfere with parking and limit accessibility, particularly for individuals with disabilities.
Clean-Up Week allows residents to dispose of bulky household items, though some restrictions apply. Heavy materials such as stoves, furniture, and cement pipes may be collected separately due to special equipment requirements. Additionally, bags and containers must not exceed 50 pounds, and disposable containers are recommended as they will not be returned.
All materials must be placed at the curb by 8:30 a.m. on the scheduled pickup day. City workers will not enter private property, and once a street has been cleared, collection crews will not return.
Officials also note that debris from private contractor work — including construction or tree removal — will not be collected and remains the responsibility of the contractor.
Residents with hazardous household waste are encouraged to contact the Delaware Solid Waste Authority for proper disposal options.
City officials say the annual effort is an important way to keep Seaford clean and are asking for community cooperation in the weeks leading up to the event.
