Vienna Man Arrested for Attempted Murder of State Trooper

Armond Darel Jolley

VIENNA, Md. – The Maryland State Police (MSP) have arrested a man for attempted murder after they say he fired shots at a trooper on Thursday night.

Police arrested 46-year-old Armond Darel Jolley of Vienna on charges of attempted first and second degree murder, first and second degree assault, and use of a firearm during a violent crime. He is currently being held without bond at Dorchester County Detention Center.

At 10:20 p.m. on Apr. 2, a Maryland State Trooper from the Easton Barrack responded to a residence in the 100 block of Middle Street in Vienna for a reported disturbance. Upon arrival on the scene, the trooper approached the opened front door of the home and made contact with an African-American man, later identified as Jolley, standing in the living room. The trooper requested to speak to Jolley, who disappeared into the home before returning with a gun and firing multiple shots towards the trooper. He then fled the scene.

Police say the trooper did not return fire and instead retreated to cover while requesting additional units to respond to the area. The trooper was uninjured in the shooting.

Additional units from the Easton Barrack immediately secured the perimeter and conducted neighborhood checks, canvasing the area. Approximately 20 minutes after the shooting, Jolley was located near Water Street directly behind the home. After a short foot pursuit, he was taken into police custody without further incident.

The MSP Homicide Unit is leading the continuing investigation into this shooting.
