WICOMICO COUNTY, Md. – The Wicomico County State’s Attorney (SA) has secured a conviction and sentencing connected to a drug investigation from Oct. 2022.

On Wednesday, 40-year-old Alvin Thompson of Princess Anne pled guilty to one count of possession with the intent to distribute cocaine and one count of reckless endangerment. Judge S. James Sarbanes accepted the plea and subsequently sentenced Thompson to eight years of active incarceration. He will be required to serve a minimum of half of his sentence before he is eligible for parole.

“Illegal drugs continue to plague our communities. Thompson’s despicable manner of hiding his drugs in the bedroom of a minor serves to show how little concern he had for not only the minor children, but our community as a whole,” said SA Jamie L. Dykes. “The sentence imposed should give him ample time to reflect on his life decisions and the danger he presented to everyone around him.”

On Oct. 14, 2022, deputies from the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office executed a search and seizure warrant on a residence in Salisbury after receiving reports of suspicious activity at the home and establishing probable cause that illegal activity was occurring within the residence. The search resulted in the recovery of cocaine and paraphernalia located within the bedroom of a 14-year-old minor. Further investigation by law enforcement revealed that Thompson was storing his controlled dangerous substances within the minor’s room, raising concerns regarding the safety and welfare of the child.
