Senator Mary Beth Carozza talks Budget

MARYLAND. – The Maryland State Senate passed the $71 billion dollar budget for fiscal year 2027. Senator Mary Beth Carozza voted against the budget and supported some amendments offered by Republican senators focusing on tax relief and spending discipline.

The senator believes the state needs policies that promote investment in Maryland without burdening small businesses or Maryland families.

She tells us that individuals with developmental disabilities who need intensive caregiving services are being impacted the most, as their services have been targeted for cost containment in this year’s budget.

“Cut out some wasteful spending, there is no reason we can’t make a 5 percent cut across the board. Have everybody tighten up in each department and agency, we do that as families, as local government, there is no reason we can’t do that across the state level.”

The Maryland’s House is now going through debate and preliminary votes on the spending plan. The House version closes a $1.5 billion dollar shortfall with no fee or tax increases.
