A crowd of roughly 30 people gathered outside of Legislative Hall in Dover to rally for prison reform for Delaware's Department of Corrections.

Speakers said inmates were being abused by correctional officers and needed more protection from the state. They also said correctional officers needed more training to deal with inmates.

Those thoughts were echoed by Enrico Stratton-Bey, who said he is the cousin of the late Lt. Steven Floyd. The officer who lost his life in the hostage situation at James T. Vaughn.

"It takes two sides coming together to understand the situation that's going on," said Stratton-Bey. "I cant just take the side because Officer Floyd was my cousin. I can't do that, because again I have to understand what brought about that problem was the injustices that go in the correctional institution."

The Department of Corrections, the State of Delaware and other parties are currently being sued by the survivors of that hostage situation.

The correctional officers association of Delaware has also weighed in, reiterating that employees need more training to adequately do their jobs.
