ACLU says no voter complaints reported for Eastern Shore

The American Civil Liberties Union of Maryland, which has been responding to complaints from voters at the polls Tuesday, has good news about the Eastern Shore. We’re told the agency hasn’t received any reports of issues at any polling locations east of the Chesapeake.

However, that’s not to say there weren’t complaints called in elsewhere. A representative from the ACLU tells 47 ABC there were several issues reported throughout the day, mostly from the Baltimore metro area. Many of the calls they took were about precincts that only had one ballot scanner.

It appears this caused a number of problems, resulting in long lines and wait times. Also there were reports of some voters having to wait up to 2 hours to cast a ballot.
Other issues include reports of precincts opening late. Some voters called the ACLU to report that some people weren’t being told there was a 2nd page to the Maryland ballot.

And in perhaps the most concerning issue they heard about Tuesday, the ACLU investigated a case of possible election judge negligence in Anne Arundel County. In the race for Anne Arundel Circuit Court Judge, there were 5 judges running, with only 4 winning.

Although the instructions on the ballot state that voters can select up to four judges. We’re told an election judge told a voter that she needed to vote for 4 judges for her ballot to count. The voter said she only wanted to vote for one.

The ACLU stepped in and got the board of elections to educate the judge, but it appears the issue wasn’t corrected until 3 PM. That was eight hours after polls opened.
