Fenel Baine’s family continues fight for his freedom

DELAWARE. – The family of Fenel Baine protested for his freedom, Friday.

Baine is behind bars after being found guilty as an accomplice in a 2005 murder.
He has maintained his innocence during the nearly 20 years he’s been at the James T. Vaughn Correctional Facility.

His mother, Nealine Baine said his sentence was commuted in September of 2024, and he was granted work release, but he hasn’t been able to walk free yet.

“He’s been in there 19 1/2 years, for a crime he didn’t commit,” said Nealine. “It’s time for him to come home. I want my son home; it’s been too long.”

Baine’s family dropped off a letter, written by him, to Delaware Governor, Matt Meyer, asking him to help with this release. Baine hopes to get to work on grassroots efforts in the community.

“He wants to do community programs for the young people, and he wants to do violence prevention programs and diversion programs. He wants to help youth,” said Nealine.
