Worcester County Commissioners considering decreasing property taxes
WORCESTER COUNTY, Md. – County commissioners are considering decreasing the property tax rate. The idea originated from Commissioner Chip Bertino, who suggests a 1-cent or 5-cent decrease. The hope is to help the county’s 2026 fiscal year budget.
According to Bertino, each cent of property tax equates to between $1.8 and $2 million in county revenue. Property reassessments last year in Ocean City saw increases of upwards of 40% resulting in increased property tax revenue.
“The increased revenue is coming from the property owners within Worcester County. For those of us who live here, when we see a 20 or 40% increase in property tax assessment, that hits our bottom line and our pocketbooks.”
Bertino said the tax revenue increases should not mean the County Government spends what it brings in. He wants the Government to give back to taxpayers, who will pay the bill.
