Teacher arrested for allegedly bringing firearm onto school property

ONLEY, Va. – A substitute teacher has been arrested by Accomack County Sheriff’s Office for possession of a firearm while on school property.

Accomack County Sheriff’s Office received information on Wednesday, March 27, that a teacher at Nandua High School was in possession of a firearm.

An investigation into this incident led to the recovery of firearms from substitute teacher, Phillip Gordon Stewart. An arrest warrant was obtained on Stewart, 63, of Locustville, Virginia for Possession of a Firearm on School Property.

Stewart was being held at the Accomack County Jail with bond denied but was subsequently released on a $2,500 secured bond on Friday, March 29.

The Accomack County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Onley Police Department.
