Delaware law makers appoint new Superior Court judge
DOVER, DE. Friday’s special session in the Delaware general assembly brought a new face to one of the state’s highest courts.
Judge Kathleen Miller was selected for the job, with 21 votes of approval.
“This court will hear a lot of different issues, so I’m very much looking forward to being sworn in and handling cases and processing them,” Judge Miller said.
With her new appointment, Judge Miller is preparing to address some of Delaware’s hardest hitting issues.
“I very much want to continue my work in trying to increase diversity in our bar and in our state,” Judge Miller said.
Delaware Governor John Carney hopes the judge will hit the ground running, to tackle the back load of cases created during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“She’s adamantly qualified,” Governor Carney said. “There’s a backload of cases on the superior court because they were shut down during the pandemic, so we need people to get up and running quickly, so that was what this was an opportunity to do.”
State Senator Sarah McBride said the new appointment was the best decision for the Superior Court.
“Today we came together to vote on several nominations, of course, at the center of the nominations was soon-to-be judge Miller,” Senator McBride said.
“I was thrilled to support her nomination; she’ll be an extraordinary jurist, continuing a long career of service to the residents of the state of Delaware,” Senator McBride added.
