Shelters accept donations as temps dip

Temperatures have dipped overnight,  which can be dangerous to your health if you do not get the proper shelter.

The Wicomico County Health Department advises everyone to dress properly by covering your head, ears, and the lower part of your face to avoid frostbite.

Officials also recommend wearing several layers, also suggesting mittens rather than gloves in order to keep your hands warmer.

For those who do not have shelter for the frigid weather, there are shelter options available through out the tri-counties such as the Samaritan Shelter in Pocomoke.

The shelter houses seven men, eight women, and it even has two family rooms. Shelly Daniels, the director of the Samaritan Shelter, tells us they are in need of a few donations due to the cold temperatures.

"We're accepting blankets and things like that so if someone does come and they're not wanting to go to a shelter then we can at least give them warmth and we also give them pop top cans," says Daniels. "We're here 24/7 if someone needs shelter or some needs resources or referrals."

Community Emergency Shelters will start on January 7, 2017. Those shelters are saved for when temperatures dip to dangerously low levels.
