Md. reporting lowest COVID-19 case rate, third-lowest positivity rate in U.S.

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Governor Larry Hogan announced Monday morning that the state of Maryland is reporting the country’s lowest COVID-19 case rate.

The state’s case rate has declined by over 97% since the Omicron peak in January and is now at 5.9 per 100,000, the lowest rate in the United States. Additionally, hospitalizations have dropped below 300, a total decline of 91.4% since the Omicron peak.

Maryland’s statewide positivity rate peaked at 29.98% in January and is now down to 1.61%, which is the country’s third-lowest positivity rate.

The state is nearing 2.2 million COVID-19 booster shots, and health officials say a total of 74% of the state’s seniors have received a booster shot. Officials continue to encourage Marylanders to get boosted for maximum protection against the virus and its variants.
