Discover Delmarva Arts: Shore Walls Mural Festival
SALISBURY, Md. — Downtown Salisbury just got a lot more colorful. We Are Limitless Studios hosted the inaugural Shore Walls Mural Festival in May — bringing artists from as far away as Los Angeles to paint seven large-scale murals that celebrate the spirit of Salisbury.
Festival founder, CEO and Creative Director of We Are Limitless Studios Brandon Bell says he created the festival to get people excited about public art and celebrating all the creativity within Salisbury.
“I wanted to bring about the artist community and connect them a little bit more, increase the amount of public art we have, and of course, create festivities around it. . . I look at Salisbury as being the heart and hub of the Eastern Shore, so to me, having the festival here made perfect sense,” Bell said.
Bell sought out national, regional, and local artists for the festival — hoping to blend different styles, backgrounds, and cultures. “We have some girls from Baltimore because I know a lot of times the Baltimore spirit still exists here. We’re so close, so I wanted to bring that in the public art realm. . . All the Salisbury locals — they’re just people who really care about this place and to see them have the opportunity to put their spirit on canvas to me just meant everything.”
Muralist Miriam Moran lives in Salisbury — and to her, it was all about creating something the community could have pride in.
“It’s all about engagement. There’s a lot of things going on in the world that are so bad — let’s talk about something positive. . . It’s beyond just being an artist; it’s about coming together as a community,” Moran said.
Bell hopes that the festival inspires others to be more creative themselves, and to have pride in the city for years to come.
“People are craving for the culture here to expand, to grow and evolve. There’s a lot of artists out there, it’s a very expressive place but often times they don’t really know about it, so I think by visually creating the idea that this is an expressive place, people end up naturally being more that themselves. . . Art is alive and well here in Salisbury. Creativity is thriving and I look forward to what the future holds, not just for murals, but for just creativity as a whole across the region,” Bell said.
