Cambridge Woman Arrested for Attempted Murder after Stabbing
CAMBRIDGE, Md. – The Cambridge Police Department has arrested a woman in connection with a stabbing that occurred in the early hours of Thursday morning.
Police have arrested 22-year-old Iy’Onaalee Dimond Best of Cambridge on charges of attempted second degree murder, first degree assault, second degree assault, reckless endangerment, and dangerous weapon with intent to injure. She was turned over to the Dorchester County Department of Corrections on no bond.
At 3:37 a.m. on May 7, officers responded to the 600 block of Douglas Street in reference to a possible stabbing. Upon officers’ arrival in the area, they located a 47-year-old male victim laying in the roadway in a large pool of blood. Officers immediately rendered aid to the victim until Dorchester County Emergency Medical Services arrived, applying a tourniquet to the victim’s arm where he had been stabbed. Officers also observed the subject was suffering from three additional stab wounds. The victim was transported to the University of Maryland Shore Medical Center at Cambridge before being flown by Maryland State Police Aviation to Shock Trauma in Baltimore. Police say he is currently in stable condition.
Officers say they were able to track the blood trail from the victim to the 700 block of Douglas Street where they located a bloody knife in the roadway and another large amount of blood. Through investigation and viewing camera footage of the area, officers and detectives were able to determine at what residence the stabbing occurred.
Officers and detectives responded to the residence where they located and identified Best. She was detained and transported to CPD for further investigation, where she ultimately admitted to the stabbing to a detective. Detectives subsequently obtained a search and seizure warrant for Best’s residence where they located other items of evidence related to this incident.
