Poplar Hill Mansion Festival: Celebrating Over 200 Years of History
Salisbury, MD 21801
The Poplar Hill Mansion Festival: Celebrating Over 200 Years of History is scheduled for Saturday, June 15th, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. This is the second year for the festival, which has been awarded the 2019 Best New Heritage Initiative Award by the Lower Eastern Shore Heritage Area Council. It will feature a War of 1812 reenactment with the Chesapeake Independent Blues, food vendors, a “Market Square”, games, free tours of the museum with costumed interpreters, live period music and dancing, and more.
In addition to the festival, the Friends of Poplar Hill Mansion, a non-profit 501(c)3, is planning to have a fundraising component to the festival to do a “Locked in the Stocks” event, asking local community leaders to each raise money. This event will be similar to a “Get Out of Jail” event where participants are expected to raise “bail” to get out of jail. However, instead of a jail cell, there will be a pillory (or stocks).
