WORCESTER & WICOMICO COUNTIES, Md. – Students from Stephen Decatur High School in Berlin and James M. Bennett High School in Salisbury walked out of classes on Friday afternoon to protest the ongoing actions of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

According to a parent who spoke with WMDT, students at Stephen Decatur High School choosing to participate have reportedly been threatened with arrest by police, detention, and the cancellation of extracurricular events. The parent told us that her daughter went back inside the school after being told by a theater teacher that the spring production would be cancelled if the protest continued.

Students at James M. Bennett (JMB) High School were visible from West College Avenue around 2:00 p.m., waving flags and signs in protest on the sidewalk in front of the school. While most students remained on the sidewalk, some entered the roadway and median. Police were reportedly present at the school, but were stationed at a neighboring apartment complex.

Sources tell WMDT that some Parkside High School students walked from their campus to JMB to participate. An additional protest was held at Parkside around 1:00 p.m.

WMDT reached out to Worcester and Wicomico County Public Schools for statements, but have not received any at the time of publishing.

WMDT will continue to report on this story as updates are made available.
