Weather Tidbits: Coffee & Weather

This Weather Tidbits proves if your coffee can predict the weather. The coffee folklore explains that if bubbles collect towards the center of the cup; this leads to high pressure which brings pleasant conditions. On the other hand, if the bubbles collect near the edge of the cup; this sets up low pressure bringing unsettled weather. Interestingly enough, if the bubbles move slowly towards the edge, expect unsettled weather with clearing. The problems with this folklore involved the shape of the cup, along with other factors such as water temperature, brew concentration, coffee type. There is also the idea that this folklore makes more conceptual sense, with low pressure representing bubbles in the center, while bubbles on the edge mean high pressure.
