OC Police arrest three on weapons charges

OCEAN CITY, Md. – Three people were taken into custody early Thursday morning after police responded to a disorderly crowd.

At around 12:20 a.m., officers were on bicycle patrol in the area of 7th Street and Philadelphia Avenue when they observed a large disorderly crowd around in the 100 block of 7th Street. When officers arrived on scene, they found a large crowd of approximately 20 to 30 people gathered in the roadway, and observed an argument between several people in the crown and those near a vehicle parked in the travel portion of the roadway.

Officers began to disperse the crown and approached the vehicle, at which point they saw the rear passenger actively loaded a magazine into a semi-automatic handgun. The passenger, identified as 19-year-old Lazairus Smith of Baltimore, was removed from the vehicle and detained.

As officers were in the process of disarming and detaining Smith, a second male, identified as 19-year-old Jacob Anderson of Manchester, PA, quickly approached them and tried to interfere with the arrest. Anderson reportedly became disorderly and hostile towards officers on scene and was placed under arrest. The driver of the vehicle, identified as 18-year-old Cherish Glenn of Westminster, MD, complied with officers’ orders to exit the vehicle.

During the investigation, officers found two Polymer handguns in the backseat area of the vehicle and two fully loaded extended magazines. It was learned that Anderson and Smith had placed the handguns inside the vehicle before police arrived.

All three were subsequently arrested.

Smith is currently being held without bond on charges of loaded handgun on person, handgun on person, loaded handgun in vehicle, handgun in vehicle, and possession of firearm/ammo as a minor.
