UPDATE: Recovery efforts for suitcase continue after bones were found in Ocean City

Bones on beach

The search for the suitcase that contained burned bones is ongoing after search efforts were called off on Tuesday evening.

The Worcester County Sheriff's Office says an Ellicott City family stumbled across a deteriorated suitcase in the water at Homer Gudelsky Park, also known as Stinky Beach, in West Ocean City. Officials say they opened the suitcase and found bones that appeared to be burned along with personal items such as shoes.

The Maryland Department of Natural Resources Police assisted with the investigation and the Maryland State Medical Examiner was called to the scene. It is unclear whether the bones are human or not. At this time, the suitcase has not been removed from the water.

47ABC's Brooke Butler reports that the Maryland NRP Dive Team is back at the scene to continue searching for the submerged suitcase. Tuesday's search was called of as a result of low light and high tide.

This is an ongoing  investigation. This story will be updated as more information becomes available.
