Town rebrands itself as adventure capital of the eastern shore

The Town of Snow Hill is making the Pocomoke River the focal point of its new branding campaign, selling itself to locals and visitors alike as "Small Town, Big Adventure."

Economic development coordinator Michael Day tells 47ABC, he wants to make Snow Hill known as the adventure capital of the eastern shore.

"That's gold.  The Pocomoke River is our gold.  Fishing, kayaking, canoeing, swimming."

And there's plenty of things going on in and around the town that made the change an easy decision.

"Hiking, biking, we have two state parks right down the street, we've got the river, kayaking, canoeing," said Day.

Snow Hill is looking to take a page out of the Berlin playbook, who markets itself to visitors as "America's Coolest Small Town," and a destination spot for dining and shopping.

"I worked in Berlin for ten years and what we did there is we kept after the Ocean City crowd," said Day.

We're told the town has already seen growth in its promotion budget due to increased activity in the town.  That increase in budget will allow the town to reach out to folks in Ocean City, Chincoteague and Salisbury using everything from print to radio ads and even billboards along local highways.

It's all part of the effort to show off everything the small town has to offer.

Day tells us the town is also working with the county and state tourism offices to acquire grants to continue to increase the town's promotion budget.
