One dead, several injured after fatal hit and run crash

Maryland State Police are investigating a hit and run crash. 

Friday, just before 5 pm Maryland State Police responded to a deadly hit and run crash that killed one and injured several others. 75 year-old Sharon Bonewell was transported from the crash scene via medevac by the Maryland State Police Aviation Command, and later died of her injuries.

 

Two other passengers with serious injuries and were transported to the Level III Emergency/Trauma Center at Peninsula Regional Medical Center. The driver and one of the passengers received minor injuries and were transported via ambulance to Peninsula Regional Medical Center. 

 

The crash occurred in the 9000 block of Whaleyville Road, between Peerless Road and Murray Road, Whaleyville, Worcester County, Maryland.

 

Witnesses report a man and woman exited an overturned Dodge minivan and fled the crash scene. After that, they got into a blue passenger car which left the scene. The multi-vehicle crash involved three vehicles.

 

The investigation revealed, after colliding with a vehicle, the minivan veered and struck the guardrail, overturned, and went off the shoulder of the roadway coming to rest on its roof.  The minivan was traveling eastbound on Whaleyville Road when it crossed over the solid double yellow line, directly into the path of two westbound vehicles.
