Sussex Habitat for Humanity searching for downtown properties

Sussex County Habitat for Humanity is helping with the revitalization efforts in Seaford and Laurel by helping increase homeownership.

Habitat is currently working on building two new houses in Seaford as a part of this effort. Properties that were torn down and are currently being replaced and rebuilt with good, decent and affordable homes.

Now although they already have houses in the works, Sussex Habitat is looking for even more properties to revamp.

"The houses we're looking for in particular may be vacant, they may be abandoned, they may have been foreclosed upon by a bank. So they're not currently serving the greater community, they're kind of eye sores," explains Kevin Gilmore, Executive Director for Sussex County Habitat.

In order to get these houses built and ready for families to move in, it takes an entire village. That's why they're looking for volunteers to help with this revitalization effort.

If you or someone you know, owns a property in a DDD that Habitat could build on or rehab, please contact Jack Moore, Habitat's Property Acquisition Coordinator. He can be reached by email at jack@sussexcountyhabitat.com or by phone at 240-278-0430.
