Medical providers take time during water world to teach safe swimming tips

Folks were beating the summer heat with this month's Third Friday theme in Salisbury, Water World.

Downtown was decked out with a mini water park, but playing in the water isn't all fun and games.  There are still precautions to take, and that's what PRMC was doing at the event handing out information about how to stay safe while taking a dip.

Those tips include never allowing your child to swim unattended, swim in designated areas attended by lifeguards, and if you have a small child make sure they have a life jacket.

"Prevention is the key, any kind of promotional activities, any kind of education we can provide to kids and their parents on how to be safe in the pool and around the water in the area.  Prevention is worth an ounce of cure. We certainly want to prevent these things before they occur," said Agnie Brittingham, a pediatric inpatient manager at PRMC.

More information on how to stay safe in the water, you can find that info at the Maryland Department of Natural Resources website, or at the Safe Kids Worldwide website.
