Gov. Carney signs 12-week paid parental leave into law
Governor John Carney signed a bill into law on Saturday that will allow state workers 12 weeks of paid parental leave after the birth or adoption of a child under the age of six.
Delaware is now the sixth state in the country to offer paid parental leave to public workers.
Only full-time workers, including educators, will be eligible for either maternity or paternity leave after one year of employment.
The policy will take affect on April 1, 2019.
Governor Carney said he hopes the new law will strengthen the state's workforce.
