Georgetown man arrested in connection with Ellendale burglary

A Georgetown was arrested after police say he was involved in a home burglary in Ellendale.

Police say the incident happened sometime between June 18th and July 3rd at a home along Beaver Dam Road.  

The 40-year-old male victim told police that he was on vacation when he noticed that his window was open and that a jar containing an undisclosed amount of money, approximately 50 crab traps, and scrap metal were taken.

Upon investigating, police were able to identify the suspect as 29-year-old Eric Whitman. 

Whitman had allegedly taken the stolen metal to a scrap yard to receive cash for it. 

On Saturday, July 7th, Whitman was arrested and charged with Burglary Second Degree Dwelling and various other theft charges.

He was committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution on a $17,000.00 secured bond.
