Festival means much more than just Blueberries
The Blueberry festival is back in Chincoteague this weekend, and it's more popular than ever. The three-day long event attracts vendors from across the eastern half of the United States, but it's also a way for local bakers and crafts makers to get their products out to the public.
Not only is the Blueberry Festival the perfect way for locals to show off what they have to offer to consumers, but it's also the perfect way for Chincoteague to bring in new business.
"For the town we've provided a whole new center of commerce. Spending nights in hotels eating in restaurants, shopping in the shops," said Sam Serio, the event's promoter.
We're told about 6,000 people attend the festival every year, that's 6,000 potential new customers for local businesses like the Island Creamery.
The festival not only helps with locals hoping to sell more product, but a portion of the sales are also donated to local charities like the local police department and their Kids Ride Along events.
The Chincoteague Blueberry Festival will be going on Saturday and Sunday, the event will be open from 9 AM until 4:30 PM.
