Primary race results for Worcester County

Primary Election results are in for Worcester County.

The Maryland State Board of Elections reports the following results for local offices in Worcester County.

Worcester County Commissioner 

Worcester County Commissioner District 1 – Republican Incumbent Merrill Lockfaw Jr. will run against Democratic candidate Joshua C. Nordstrom in the 2018 general election, in November.

Worcester County Commissioner District 2 – Incumbent Democrat Diana Purnell was unopposed in the in the primary election.

Worcester County Commissioner District 3 –  Incumbent Republican Bud Church beat out his Republican challenger, Gary Millhoff by winning 75.6 percent of votes. Church will face off with Democrat Zackery Tyndall in November.

Worcester County Commissioner District 4 – November's ballot will have Democrat Virgil Shockley running against incumbent Republican Theodore "Ted" Elder for the Worcester County Commissioner District 4 spot.

Worcester County Commissioner District 5 – Incumbent Republican Anthony "Chip" Bertino will be challenged by Democrat Judy Butler on the November ballot for Worcester County Commissioner for District 5.

Worcester County Commissioner District 6 – Incumbent Republican Worcester County Commissioner for District 6 Madison "Jim" Bunting Jr. was unopposed in the Maryland Primary Election. He will remain the Worcester County Commissioner for District 6.

Worcester County Commissioner District 7 – Republican Joseph Mitrecic, the incumbent District 7 Worcester County commissioner, was also unopposed in the primary election. He will remains in the Worcester County Commissioner District 7 spot.

Worcester County Sheriff

Republican candidate Matt Cristafulli received 44.9 percent of the votes as his closest challenger, Republican candidate Mike McDermott received 41.7 percent of the votes in race for Worcester County Sheriff. 47ABC's Justina Coronel reports that several provisional and absentee ballots are still left to be counted in the 2018 Maryland primary election in Worcester County. The remaining ballots are expected to be counted by July 5.

Republicans Scott T. Bernal and George Truitt also ran for the position of Sheriff in the Maryland Primary Election. 

Worcester County State's Attorney 

The race is too close to call between Republican Kris Heiser and Interim Worcester County State's Attorney Bill McDermott, who are vying for the State's Attorney spot. 47ABC's Justina Coronel reports that several provisional and absentee ballots are still left to be counted. At present, Heiser received 51.7 percent of the votes  and McDermott received 48.3 percent of the votes in the 2018 Primary Election.  

The remaining ballots are expected to be counted by July 5.
