Dover holds open street event for residents and families
The city of Dover held its first open streets event of the year Saturday. The event temporarily closed down certain streets in the city and opened them up for people to walk, bike, and play in a safe, fun, and family-friendly environment. Organizers of the event say the open streets project encourages people to use active modes of transportation, engage in healthy living, and rethink Dover's streets as public space, while also promoting local businesses, sustainable transportation, and civic pride in the city.
"Part of the initiative is to increase health awareness what we found is Delaware ranks 30 as it relates to health so this is a great way to get people out and moving and interacting with each other ," said community engagement specialist Chanda Jackson Short.
Event organizers say the next open streets Dover festival will take place on Saturday July 21st at 6 PM
