Del. lawmakers make one final push for offshore drilling bills

In Delaware, the clock is ticking for lawmakers as legislative session comes to an end on Friday.

Senate Bill 207 and Senate Bill 200 are designed to put offshore drilling restrictions on Delaware's coast.
and would require state agencies to review offshore oils and gas exploration leases.

Sponsors of the bill say this will give the state a role in federal planning and decisions that could impact Delaware.

"It's important that Delawereans and their legislatures and us in the general assembly make a strong statement to protect our coast lines," says Senator Ernesto Lopez.

Senate Bill 200 officially opposes the Trump's administration proposed offshore drilling plan and prohibits DNREC from issuing permits for offshore drilling projects. Senator Lopez says that this bill is a way to protect local beaches and the tourism economy.
