Del. expands free summer meal program
Agencies across Delmarva are also making sure kids don't go hungry — while school is out of session for the summer.
Children, 18 years old or younger, are eligible to receive a meal at Summer Food Service Program sites across the First State. This summer there are hundreds of summer meal sites, including new locations at several schools.
Officials want residents to know that making sure kids have a full belly is as simple as sending a text.
"When school is out, the summer food service program offers free healthy meals to low income children. To locate meal sites text the word 'food' or 'comida' to 877-877 or call 211," said Tracey Quillen Carney, Delaware's First Lady.
In Delaware, during the summer of 2016, over 720 thousand meals were served statewide.
